About Us

The York County Dog Training Club was established in December 1999 by a small group of dog sport enthuasists that were interested in bringing more competition events to the central Pennsylvania area. While the love of dogs was the common denominator for the group, there were individuals interested in agility, obedience, tracking and earthdog. Some of the group were active competitors in all of these and other dog sports.

The YCDTC elected to seek recognition with the American Kennel Club and was licensed by this organization in 2001. In 2002, the YCDTC hosted its first AKC Agility Event. This two day/two trial event was held in at the Diamond Seven Ranch in Dillsburg, PA. Currently, the YCDTC holds AKC agility events in March and October each year. The club has a reputation of having first class worker hospitality and a friendly atmosphere at the trials which makes it an excellent place to start a novice dog.

The second dog sport competition to be offered by YCDTC was obedience. Since the first trial in 2006, the club has expanded the AKC obedience trials to include Rally Obedience. Trials are held in January and September of each year. YCDTC strives to hold small dog friendly trials that provide as stress free an atmosphere as possible for these sports.

Tracking was added to the YCDTC's calendar in 2007. Each year in early December, the club hosts a tracking test. The tracking test allows the dogs to use their natural instincts and is one of the areas in which a dog must title to earn a Versatile Dog Title from the AKC.

In November 2008, the club hosted its first two day earthdog test in Red Lion, PA, and has become an annual event In 2009, two additional earthdog tests were added in May.

The YCDTC is honored to host an annual awards banquet in March of each year that showcases the achievements of the members and their canine companions. All members that have earned a title on their dog in the previous calendar year are awarded a commemorative item.

Public education events and seminars are also conducted on a frequent basis. Seminars have included canine conditioning, advanced obedience training techniques, earthdog training, and a variety of other topics.
